Install Essentials 522T Trunk Release Solendo Kit Review

I managed to make it work with my 99 Camry LE yesterday.
The installation is tricky and I was lucky I found a magic place in the locking mechanism to hook the steel wire.

The provided green wire is way too short. I ended up buying additional wire. The trunk release switch is crappy. It doesn't work most of the time. Fortunately, I hook it up with a relay from my bulldog ke1702 keyless entry. And that works all the time.

Also, grounding is important. If the grounding on the trunk lid is not good, route another wire to a factory grounding point on the body.

The most difficult part is not electrical but mechanical. There's no standard way to hook the steel wire. I took the locking mechanism out and studied a bit. I found a spot where only a little force and moving distance needed to open it. The spot is on the actual movement which locks the latch and it doesn't interface with the manual trunk release cable and the arm operated by the trunk key.

HIGH POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR 2 WIRE Review

Cheap and easy replacement for aftermarket power door lock conversions.After 6 years my initial actuators wore out and I got one of these to replace it.Works perfect, easy to install with the included bracket.Only downside is that the wires were shorter than my original so I had to splice in some extra wire to hook it up.Not a big problem but longer wires would have been nicer.Also make sure you wire them the right way, otherwise you will be unlocking your door when you think you are locking it.With only two wires, you have a 50% chance of guessing right the first time.

I now need to replace the other door's actuator 6 months later, should have just ordered two at the same time.

Viper 488V Led 2-Way Remote Review

The 2-way feature is great on this remote. But just because you're paying 50-100 for this remote, don't expect it to be high-quality. I've owned two in the past, and each one has broken the same way. The first problem- Solder joints. After a couple of months, the solder joints (on both) would break, especially around the battery terminals. Easy fix- Simply resolder the joints. Next, the cosmetic paint and light labels will rub off, and thats when things start to go downhill. If you keep it in your pocket like other car remotes, the plastic case will start to break- Notably at the top right corner. Once that happens, the remote looks awful, and the keyring will fall out because the tabs holding the two halves together have weakened too.

On top of all that, the second remote I have sometimes beeps, and sometimes doesn't.

If you want the two-way feature, you can get this. But if you want a solid remote, consider buying the compatible 1-way version, P/N 7141V or 7141 P (python and viper remotes are interchangeable). It will not give you audible feedback, but it will save you frustration. They are compatible with the LED 2-way systems, too.

I sure hope DEI's new systems use better remotes. Its a mystery to me as to why Viper Alarm systems are as popular as they are- nothing but plastic junk in my opinion.

UPDATE:
I picked up a less expensive one-way Viper remote that is compatible with my system (I was tired of throwing down so much $$ for a piece of crap). It is about two months old, and is starting to crack as well.

Kng 028616 Mater Alarm Clock Radio Review

So many things are wrong with this thing.Most have been mentioned before.
* Some control switches are on the BACK!
* The buttons are iffy when they work.
* The buttons are labeled poorly.
* Nothing makes sense.
* The manual is both useless and necessary.
* I had to hit the 'Reset' button a couple if times to have the thing accept new entries.??

Hopefully the previous reviewer looks are my review because I can help him out about the 'alarm' going off every hour.For the past month I actually had not powered the thing because of the same problem and I couldn't find the 'manual'.That isn't the 'Alarm' going off every hour, it is actually the 'Chime'.Certainly sounds like the alarm though, HA, what do I know.From the manual:

"Pressing the 'MODE/ALARM OFF' during the normal display will enter the alarm mode setting. ("AL" will be displayed on the LCD panel) Pressing 'SET' will cause the following sequence:Alarm off & Chime off ** -> Alarm on & Chime on -> Alarm off & Chime on -> go back to **: (Alarm and chime icon will show on the LCD panel)"

The reason I am out on the internet looking for information about this stupid thing is that I can't tell which icon is 'Chime' and which is 'Alarm'.Dollars to donuts it is going to wake up my son at 9:00. :-(But then I will know.

I have run this alarm on my Expedition for the last 4 years.It is true that these remotes require some extra care, they provide you with a wealth of knowledge about your vehicle's situation while you are indoors.

Compatible only with top of the line D.E.I. alarms (Viper included).This 2 WAY remote let's me know that commands I have sent have been received.It alleviates a lot of guesswork. At a glance, I know if my doors are locked/unlocked, if the car is running (remote start) or not.If the alarm is triggered, it even shows me the zone that was triggered when the alarm was tripped (it actually shows which door/window has been opened/broken, or if the car was hit).

I too have bought replacement remotes for this alram, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it from the start.

For those of you who don't need the 2-way function, its important to know that you can program one-way remotes (much less expensive) to work with the alarm brain too.I strongly suggest having extra remotes for every alarm.You should also know to locate your valet button in case you have to bypass the alarm without a (working) remote.

When you drop a computer, its a roll of the dice if it will keep working, or not.I've run this alarm for 4 years, drop my keys regularly, and have only needed to replace two remotes.

I too have found customer service to be a joke at DEI, and had to solve the problem on my own.But the alarm itself is great!

I received this unit for Christmas, and installed it in my Ford Explorer. The instructions are not as direct as they could be, but the video helps organize things. I needed to call tech support for a question/clarification and after a fairly long wait on hold (two days after Christmas so I expected that) I got the info I needed by a cheerful tech. The biggest problems with any of these self-installed units (this brand or others) are (1) people who don't have any electrical experience or tools, and (2) installation on cars that have difficult to access wiring (most). The latter can make the difference between a relatively easy or relatively hard installation. The kit electronics appear good for this type of item. All parts (and a small installation tool kit) are included - - except for any small relays that may be necessary for some door locks, security bypasses, and some dome light activiation situations. They are not needed on every vehicle, but many. A couple should be included since they are cheap and these Remote Starters are not. Also, if under-dash wiring is a bit hard to get at (or not), they have plug-in T-harnesses available that range in cost between $10 and $20. Using one would eliminate almost all hookup problems. I didn't use one. My unit works great. I don't anticipate problems, but I have experience in tapping into wiring properly so the connections should last. If there is going to be a problem, it will be in that area. This thing makes getting off to work on a cold, snowy morning more bearable. It's also kinda neat, in general. Take your time or have someone who knows more about these things do the installation. Enjoy. Happy New Year!

Let me start by acknowledging Amazon for providing such a deal on the sensor. The manufacturer sells this sensor at $90. I was able to add three additional sensors (radar, tilt, glass) to my system for the price of one.

I added this to my Python 872 security system. After 20 minutes of testing the sensitivity levels, I set it up just as I wanted: I have it so it will warn when standing right next to the vehicle, and it will only arm if someone enters the car (I had the window rolled down while testing for the full alarm trigger). I love this product! It is my second one, I sold my other car and the buyers wanted to keep it, so I ordered this one.

Python 872 Responder LE Security/Remote Start System Review

I purchased a new car with a manual transmission a year ago. Having had a remote start in my previous vehicle, which was also a manual, I decided to get another. After searching I wanted something with an alarm and remote start. The bells and whistles were nice as well, including remote paging.

When I got the unit, I quickly set to work to install the system. What I do not like is that amazon sells units like this under the guise that DEI will NOT warranty or support anything that isn't sold/purchased/installed by one of their authorized dealers. After figuring that out in hindsight, I knew I was out of luck for support or help.

Once I had the unit installed, and the shutdown sequence for the manual transmission figured out, it worked alright. Then after two, to three days, the unit decided to start to act up.

The remote start sequence requires that the car be running, doors closed, in neutral, then depress the brake pedal, and then while holding down the brake pedal, engage the e-brake, then release the brake pedal, then press the remote start button on the remote. The lights will flash, the green light on the remote will light up, you can now take the key out of the car, get out, shut the door, and walk away. The car will still be running until, you press the lock button. That locks the doors and turns the motor off.

Well, I've had problems where the car won't shut off after the above sequence was performed. Where you have to press the remote start button again to get the car to turn off. This only makes the alarm go off full blast the next time you try to remote start the car. Then you have to go back outside and perform the sequence again. Sometimes it doesn't even take, and you have to repeat it again and again.

I'm finishing this review off by saying, I was successful in the sequence at work this morning, but when I got back, I noticed that the sequence was broken because the alarm went off again. When I asked around, nobody had gone near the car. This isn't the first time, as the alarm has gone off at random times as well in the day.

Overall quality of the unit, is nothing more than a circuit board inside a black box, and two remotes. One will allow two way communications, the other is a dummy remote that does one way communications. The buttons on the remote are cheap and flimsy and do not work very well.

Also, the manual for install and use, has several spelling mistakes, along with being written by someone who has not clearly installed the unit before. Some steps come before others in reverse order, it was very confusing, remember to test everything and solder all your connections.

In the end, I am very dissatisfied with this DEI product and will not be purchasing another unit from them again, or through Amazon.com for that matter.

I bought this alarm because it was simple and didn't have too many features. I wanted something basic. When it arrived, I was particularly pleased by the keyfob remotes. They are very small and sturdy. Since they are the part of the alarm I will have the most contact with, I was impressed by the quality and ergonomics. The alarm by itself will flash your parking lights, sound the siren, and disable the starter with the included relay. If you have electric door locks (or have added them) it will interface with them to lock/unlock with the remote. It comes with a valet switch and LED. It does not come with any pin switches so if you want to protect your hood or trunk you'll need to buy those, but it does have connections for them. The vibration sensor is internal and has programmable sensitivity. Some other features have programmable settings but the defaults are sensible. There are two booklets, one for the user and one for the installer. The installation booklet expects you to be an experienced installer. If you are not electrically savvy or have never installed an alarm before, you'll need help. I am quite happy with my purchase, this is a well-made product with the features I want. Code Alarm is part of Audiovox and their website was where I found information before purchase.

Not sure who installed S Mitchell's alarm, but apparently someone who didn't know what they were doing.I've installed car electronics for over 30 years and all ScyTek alarms I've owned have worked outstanding!I currently own the Galaxy G20 and I love it!The remotes work great, and I can arm/disarm the alarm from half a block away!Not sure why someone would have to stand next to their car to get their remote to work.Sounds like either the remote's battery is low or the antenna wire coming off the alarm module is shoved up under the dash or somewhere else that is not allowing it a good signal.Mine is actually hanging out from under the dash, not surrounded by any metal or wires.My doors lock and unlock as they should, with either the remote or ignition.The dome light comes on as it is supposed to.I also have both a shock sensor and a proximity sensor hooked up (using a 3-into-1 adapter plug that allows adding 3 optional sensors to 1 sensor plug).Both work fine.

I totally love this alarm!I've had less issues with ScyTek alarms than with any other brands.Ease of installation is great, and their wiring diagrams are quite easy to understand.And I love the ability to turn features on or off.

Yes, the G20 is a GREAT car alarm!I give it 5 Stars and 2 thumbs up!If you don't know how to install alarms, I would suggest having a professional shop do it instead of doing it yourself and then complaining because it won't work.

These new alarm systems have so many features, I dont know where to start. I got this for my 2006 Silverado Z71 CCSB LBZ, I have had remote start systems since I worked in a shop part time back in 2003 and cant go without it a week. This sensor was very simple to install. The color coded wires make this fool-proof. After mounting, I tried to "steal" my own wheels, and set the alarm off long before I could jack up the car high enough to remove any wheel. I'm very happy to have this sensor.

Clarion K20 Remote Keyless Entry Review

I don't normally take the time to write a review on a product of this price but I feel got more than I paid for.
Instructions are never that helpful with these sort of products but in this case they were easy to read and for the most part accurate.
This was a simple purchase to add remote key less entry to an older vehicle and it works great I was able to install with no previous experience in about an hour.
Product is small well made and came with some additional features like blinking blue dash light when doors are locked (looks like an alarm) parking light flash, horn honk, and dome light supervision, 2 three button remotes that don't look cheap and other features I had the option for but chose not to use.
For the price it's a great buy.

Python 991 Responder LC3 SST Security/Remote Start System Review

Bought this awhile back ago cause I was determined to not get into a 100+ degree car as I left work in Arizona.Had this installed by a local dealer and it's functioned great.The range is fantastic, I have been in a conference room on the third floor of my building and was able to start my car which was parked in the parking structure next door.

I would have given this 5 stars if not for the gripe that the remote do not really take wear and tear well.After only a year usage, the remote has not had pretty much all the paint chipped off and the screen has scratches in several areas.

All in all would recommend this remote start/security from Python however if they could only improve the quality of the remote construction I would be a lifetime buyer of future products by Python (DEI).
